Module One – The basics Live 10
Module Aims:
The module introduce Live 10 to the students providing them with the basic knowledge of setup, operating and producing tracks. Through the course the students will get familiarise with the interface, tools and setup option of Live and get basic operational skills.
Course Duration: 7 x Weeks – 2 x 3 Hours per week or 12 weeks once per week

- Ableton Live introduction – what is a sequencer a little bit of history
- Installing Live 10/Suit 10 – how to manage authorisation, VST plugin folders, Library Folder
- Ableton Live preference – setting up audio and MIDI devices
- Setting up PUSH
- Live interface and menus getting around
- Arrangement Mode View
- Session Mode View
- Track parameters: I/Os, track enable, fades, solo button etc…
- Plugins – inserts and send return
- Return tracks and Groups – basic routing
- Recording tracks/clips in Arrangement Mode & Session Mode
- Capture function or how to record your ideas after you played them.
- Triggering of clips, scenes by mouse and PUSH
- PUSH basics and how to remote control Live.
- Beat creation with PUSH.
- Playing notes with PUSH and melodic step sequencer.
- Audio/MIDI clip parameters
- Time warp basics
- Looping basics

Module Two – Music Production with Live 10
Module Aims: The module will introduce students in the art of music production. The module will present general music recording and producing knowledge focused on the Live environment. The students will develop skill in recording, producing and mixing in Ableton Live.
Course Duration: 6 Weeks – 2 x 3 hours per week
Module topics:
- Digital Audio Theory – sample rates, bits and ….
- Mics, preamps, audio interfaces the hardware tools we need
- Setting up a recording session in Arrangement view
- Adding virtual instruments and loops
- Organising sounds in “Collections”
- Audio Wrapping in depth
- Clip Wrapping Modes
- Looping audio and midi Clips, clips start/end, loop start/end.
- Envelopes
- Tempo Master/Slave
- Quantisation
- Working with grooves
- introducing: Operator, Sampler, Tension, Wavetable etc…
- Types of synthesis – basic knowledge
- MIDI – clips parameters: transpose, Legato, Program Change, CCs.
- Working with automation in Arrangement View and Session View.
- Automation arm and Re-Enable automation functions
- EQs, Dynamics, Delays, Drum Buss, Pedal etc…
- Max4Live basics – what is it, how to create a basic processor or instrument.
- Producing music using Session View
- Scenes
- Automation inside clips
- Recording a Session View performance
- Exporting mixdown
- PUSH in depth
Module Three – Advanced Live 10 technics
Module Aims: The module will introduce students in innovative and advanced usage of Live 8.
Course Duration: 4 Weeks – 1 x 4 hour per Week
Module topics:
- Live as a external processing unit
- Using live as a digital mixing console
- Using Live 10 as your main hub for performing arts
- Controlling other devices from Live
- Using Link to play multiple Live rigs in sync.
- Using Max4Live to solve chalanges and create complex configurations or installations.
Module Four – Live 10 for DJs
Module Aims: This module will teach practical use of Live for DJs.
Course Duration: 4 Weeks – 4 hour per Week
- Ableton Live introduction – what is a sequences a little bit of history
- Installing Live 10/Suit 10 – how to manage authorisation, VST plugin folders, Library Folder
- Ableton Live preference – setting up audio and MIDI devices
